Tony Maddox began his artistic career as a graphic designer in a Birmingham advertising

agency and went on to become an art director with a leading greetings card publisher before

becoming a freelance writer and illustrator. His earlier ambition was to become a cartoonist

but, with four young children, his interest turned to children's picture books. His first book,

Spike The Sparrow Who Couldn't Sing, was published in 1989. More books followed including

the highly successful Fergus The Farmyard Dog series which has been popular world wide

and translated into many languages. Tony lives with his wife in Worcestershire.
